ABOUT PETER BALLANTYNE

Born in England, Peter was for decades an Art Director, guiding artists in the creation of decorative and popular art before turning his own hand to painting. The training proved to have been a good one, too, because his art proved successful, particularly on collectors' items, and after becoming skilled in digital art, hundreds of his paintings appeared on collectibles around the world. Building on his work as a lecturer on sensory triggers, and the subconscious ways art affects us, he has recently been exploring the vital roles of Diversity and Inclusion, and how they reach deep into our lives, and many will find his art themes resonate strongly with what they dream our world might eventually become.

Each group in the Expressions collection is named in homage to one of the Orixás, the deities of West Africa and Brazil, derived, perhaps in the distant past from the gods and goddesses of Ancient Egypt... This group of vibrant abstract paintings is dedicated to Exú, whose colours are red and black. Exú, in African (and Brazilian) legend, is the Orixá who acts as the messenger between the Gods and Humans and is in charge of communication. He is the opener of doors and master of the crossroads, being good to those taking the right path and punishing those who don't. He likes to play tricks on the unwary, riding through the countryside with a hat that is red on one side, and black on the other, so those who jump to conclusions can never agree how he was dressed!
